From the age of 16, Sam began a stonemasonry apprenticeship. The fundamentals of working stone were attained with the help of many experienced workers, including an apprentice master. He became accustomed to working with all tools of the craft and was privileged to work on historical heritage sites such as Windsor Castle, Hampton Court Palace and Westminster Abbey.

After 5 years as a stonemason, he then further progressed on to studying Historic Stone Carving at the City and Guilds of London Art School. Trained here, as an ornamental and figurative sculptor, his career path is now aimed at not only restoring beautifully ornate architectural elements but also creating uniquely designed standalone sculptures inspired by the multitude of Western Art.
